COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS
INTO THE WOODS MAY 17TH -19TH
"Into The Woods," a Steven Sondheim musical, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday May 17th, Friday, May 18th and Saturday, May 19th in the Weyrauch Auditorium at Community High School in West Chicago. The story is about the havoc that ensues when characters from the Grimm's Fairy Tales are all thrown together and have their stories merge around the efforts of a baker and his wife to have a child. The play's director, Mary Hafertepe, states, "After several years of traditional Broadway shows, we knew that we needed to look at a more modern piece. "Into The Woods" presents us with the challenge of Sondheim's music and a storyline that is philosophical in nature."
"Into The Woods" earned the Tony Award for Best Book which was given to James Lapine (who also wrote the currently running "Spelling Bee"). This play also won the Tony award for Best Score, the Drama Critic's Circle Award and the Drama Desk Award for the Best Musical. Some of Steven Sondheim's other work includes: West Side Story; Gypsy; Sweeney Todd; and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
The principal actors include Billy Baron, Carissa Gerber, Rachelle Henning, Cameron Jimmo, Carl Kerschner, Owen Kerschner, Alana Koontz, Paige Kulie, Brad Rathe, Sean Rubin, Abby Sherby, Heather Stark, Dave Thomas and John Wagner. Mary Hafertepe is the director, Kim Chambers is the assistant director, Brandon Fantozzi is the vocal director and Steve Govertsen is the pit orchestra director. There will be over fifty students involved in the cast, crew and orchestra.
