West Chicago to Celebrate Earth Day on April 21, 2007
West Chicago, Illinois: April 4, 2007 – West Chicagoans will be doing their part to help beautify their community with an Earth Day activity on Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. that will focus on a spring clean-up of Main Street in the community’s historic downtown. The event is sponsored and organized by local business, U’SAgain LLC, a textile recycling company, located at 1600 Downs Drive in West Chicago.
The company, which will supply a corp of volunteers from within its own ranks, hopes others will be attracted to the opportunity of celebrating Earth Day and contributing to national efforts to clean the environment in their hometown. The site on Main Street was chosen after consulting with the City of West Chicago and taking a walking tour with City Museum Director LuAnn Bombard. “Main Street is a great area to tackle because it represents the center of our downtown community, and with its proximity to Metra parking and the volume of activity it receives will probably stand to benefit greatly from a spring cleanup,” commented Bombard.
Gloves, garbage bags and other cleaning supplies and tools will be provided by the City and a limited number of free t-shirts will be distributed by U’SAgain to identify participants. Rasham Grewal, Public Relations Specialist for the company, feels there will be opportunities for everyone to help. "This is one of the many programs U'SAgain is sponsoring to increase awareness about protecting our Earth through recycling and reuse,” said Grewal. U’SAgain, LLC plans on hosting light refreshments following the clean up for all volunteers. Grewal hopes the event will provide an opportunity to bring greater awareness for the importance of recycling.
The clean-up will start at 10:00 a.m. and will run until 12:00 p.m. along both sides of Main Street in the downtown area. All volunteers are asked to report to the U'SAgain desk outside the community center, located at 306 Main Street, to register and receive an event participation t-shirt (while supplies last). All clean-up supplies may also be picked up at registration.
