COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT #94's
STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL 2007
The faculty and administration of Community High School District #94 in West Chicago would like to congratulate Dave Thomas for being chosen Student of the Month for April 2007.
Don’t be surprised if you happen to turn on your television in a few years and find senior Dave Thomas either giving you your news or campaigning for a position of political prominence. The ambitious student is already an involved citizen and has hopes of applying his spirit of determination to the study of Journalism and Political Science at Northern Illinois University after high school.
Dave has been an active member of CHS life during his time here, participating in Junior State of America Club (JSA), Thespians, as a Merit Scholar in the National Honors Society, and writing for the Wildcat Chronicle.
Most recently, he and his fellow JSA members took a trip to Washington D.C. to see the American political machine up close and personal. In addition to touring the White House and meeting Senators Barack Obama and Dick Durbin, Dave was able to witness what he calls an important “moment in history,” when the House voted on a resolution opposing the Iraq War. Not surprisingly, he cites the trip among his favorite high school memories.
Dave believes it is the duty of every American citizen to take an active role in the world, and feels author Thomas Paine accurately summed up his life philosophy when he once asserted, “Where liberty is not, there is my home.” One can only imagine the ways in which Thomas will apply this vision to his own life and work.
Congratulations, Dave, on your accomplishments at Community High School. We are extremely proud of your tremendous effort and wish you continued success and good luck in the future.
