Pioneer School 5th Graders Conducting New Toy Drive
Students in Mrs. Correa's fifth grade class at Pioneer School in West Chicago Elementary School District 33 are conducting a new toy drive April 2 - April 13 to help sick children who have been hospitalized. New toys can be dropped off at the school, 615 Kenwood Avenue, West Chicago between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.
The students are collecting toys for the Pediatric Subspecialty Unit of Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. This unit serves children ages birth to 18 years old who are suffering diseases such as cancer. The nurses in the unit have a treasure chest with toy prizes in it. After a child has received treatment, they are allowed to choose a gift from the treasure chest. This is a highlight of their visit for many children, and can dry tears and even encourage a smile. The toys provided from the toy drive will refill the treasure chest and brighten the days for many children.
Donations can also be dropped off at the District Office at 312 E. Forest Avenue, West Chicago. Questions may be answered by calling Becky Koltz, School/Community Relations Specialist, at 293-6000 ext. 201.
