Contract With Union to End Strike
West Chicago, Illinois; December 11, 2006 - The City of West Chicago has signed a contract with Local 150 Operating Engineers to end a month long strike of city building inspectors, public works employees and some clerical staff. The contract, which was unanimously approved at a Special Meeting of the City Council on Monday, December 11, 2006, will bring Union employees back to work on Thursday, December 14, 2006.
"We are satisfied that the agreement is fair to Union members as well as taxpayers of the City of West Chicago," stated City Administrator Michael Guttman. Among items included in the agreement are:
City officials have praised non-union staff for maintaining an exemplary level of service during the strike. "Through it all, the City didn't skip a beat. Dedicated city staff made sure all essential services were covered," said Guttman.
