Railroad Days rolls into West Chicago July 7-10

WEST CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, JUNE 23, 2005 Make tracks to Railroad Days in West Chicago, July 7-10 at Reed-Keppler Park for a fantastic weekend of fun and excitement for the whole family! Events include a carnival, national music acts, sporting events, kids' activities and plenty of food and drink.

There's free park admission, and the main stage will come alive with great bands, DJ's, the Talent Show and various exhibitions. There will be live music playing Friday and Saturday night and all day Sunday featuring American English, the Drifters, and the Buckinghams.

The carnival will be open each day of the festival, and families with special needs can enjoy rides and games free for two hours Saturday, July 9 from 10:00 am - noon. A Mega-Pass for unlimited rides all four days of the carnival are on sale today through July 7 at City Hall, 475 Main St., or the West Chicago Park District, 157 W. Washington St. for $50. At the carnival, a wristband for unlimited daily rides can be purchased for $15.

Sporting events include an extreme sport stunt show, Martial Arts demonstration, mud volleyball, Golazo 3v3 soccer, an obstacle course, water park events and a 5k run to benefit Carelink. A toddler run and youth run are new this year and will take place at 8:30 am Saturday in conjunction with the 5k run. Kids young and old can enjoy being part of the West Chicago Monster Mural on Thursday, July 7 from 5:00 - 10:00 pm. Pick up a paint brush and join in creating this carnival-themed mural that will travel around the community long after Railroad Days is gone. Children will also enjoy the SciTech Exhibit on Saturday from noon to 6:00 pm.

The Art Fiesta in the Park will feature artwork from individuals associated with West Chicago, either as a resident or student. Artwork will be on display at the Scout Cabin at Reed-Keppler Park starting Friday at 6:00 pm and will include two-dimensional works, sculpture and crafts. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorites in 4 categories: high school, amateur, professional and crafts. First prize in each class in $50, 2nd prize is $30 and 3rd prize is $20. Railroad Days also includes fireworks Saturday night starting around 9:30 pm and a traditional parade, themed "This is West Chicago," on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm. To inquire about participating in the parade, call 630-293-3134.
