Education Partners, good afternoon:

As promised yesterday, lots of end-of-the-year news, with much more coming tomorrow…

* Congratulations to St. Charles North High boys golf coach Rob Prentiss, who has been named the Boys Golf Coach of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association. Rob is also one of eight finalists for Coach of the Year through another professional association, and is already a member of the Illinois State Golf Coaches Hall of Fame. * The latest issue of the FOCUS newsletter will be hitting mailboxes in the next few days, but it’s available now through the magic of electronics and email. Click here to be the first on your block to read it: http://www.d303.org/news/focus3-5final.pdf

* St. Charles East’s Brandy Pfeifer, and St. Charles North’s Alexandria Szarmach, both seniors, each received $500 on May 31, 2005 as the first winners of the Linda Thompson Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship honors the memory of the 33-year veteran District 303 teacher and principal who died last December. Click here for more: http://www.d303.org/news/press/thompsonscholarship05pr.htm

* Free athletic physical exams for St. Charles East and North high school student-athletes will be administered on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at St. Charles East High School. Exams are available for next year’s sophomore, junior and senior athletes. Exams for girls will be given from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the boys will be given from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the St. Charles East High main gymnasium. Athletes must have a physical form with their parents’ signatures to receive an exam on the 8th. Please call the St. Charles East High School Athletic Office for more information at 377-4775.

* St. Charles East High School freshman Astri Snodgrass won first place in Congressman and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert's 24th Annual Congressional Art Competition. She was honored at the District Office in Batavia on June 1, 2005. Her art will be displayed in Washington D.C. This is the second year in a row that East High has won first place in this prestigious competition. Kudos to Astri for this great accomplishment.
* The Norris Cultural Arts Center is looking for candidates to fill three open seats on its Board of Directors. Please share this information with anyone who might be interested: http://www.d303.org/news/press/ncacseats05pr.htm

* St. Charles East will again offer its summer track and field camp for District 303-area students who will be in 2nd-8th grades next year. Click here for more: http://www.d303.org/news/press/summertrackcamp05pr.htm

* Please see the two District 303 Student/Stranger Encounter Reports pasted below, one from South Elgin, and one from St. Charles. Both of these were to go home with all K-8 students today.

And finally, Dr. Erwin sent a Connect-ED message this afternoon thanking, students, parents, staff and the community for a great year. Again today, we got numerous phone calls at the administrative office wondering what the call was about.

Just to clarify, we will continue to use Connect-ED next school year to share important district and building-level information with our community. Hopefully, with continued use, people will become more aware of this system and appreciate its power and value. Those new to the district may want to click here to get some background on Connect-ED: http://www.d303.org/news/press/connectedpr.htm

Have a great night,
Tom Hernandez
