D.A. Nichols new volleyball coach
West Chicago, IL – D.A. Nichols, former head coach at Lancaster Bible College (Lancaster, PA), has been named Wheaton Academy’s new volleyball coach, WA athletic director Tom Jamerson announced Friday afternoon.
Nichols replaces Edie Rooks who retired from coaching after 25 seasons at the helm for Wheaton Academy. Nichols led the Lancaster women’s teams to the most wins in the school’s history and an overall record of 56-30 the past three seasons placing 3rd in the NCCAA II East Region. In 2002, Nichols was named NCCAA II East Region Coach of the Year. While at Lancaster, he started the men’s volleyball program posting 4-8, 7-14, and 15-3 records in 2001-2003.
Nichols head coaching career began at Cross Lanes Christian School in Charleston, West Virginia where his teams won 5 state titles in 8 seasons from 1993-2000. His last two seasons at Cross Lanes his teams were 54-4.
“Wheaton Academy is excited to have such an outstanding coach leading our volleyball programs,” Jamerson said. “ Throughout this process, we were looking for someone with solid coaching experience, an effective communicator, and a person who could understand and promote the values of Wheaton Academy. Coach Nichols has all of these qualities, in addition to having a successful track record coaching volleyball.”
In addition to his volleyball coaching duties, Nichols will teach physical education classes and serve as the assistant athletic director. Nichols will begin volleyball duties this summer at the Wheaton Academy Warrior Volleyball Camps the week of June 13-17.
