CHS Alumni Association Awards First
to David Frommert and Vanessa Vergara
The Community High School Alumni Association awarded its first scholarships to David Frommert and Vanessa Vergara of the Class of 2005. David is the son of Greg and Debra Deutsch Frommert of West Chicago, and Vanessa is the daughter of Raul and Martha Vergara of West Chicago.
Each scholarship is for $1,500. They were awarded on the basis of participation in school and community service and/or work experience, and strength of character and career goals. The competition was open to the children of Community High School alumni.
Alumni Council Co-Chair Edie Thompson Freund will present award certificates to Vergara and Frommert at Community High School's Honors Night on June 3, 2005. The scholarships were funded by the proceeds of the CHS Alumni Centennial Dance held last fall. Frommert plans to attend Northern Illinois University. "It is my goal to become a high school history teacher and perhaps return to Community High School to teach alongside those who taught me so much," he said. Vergara has been accepted by Loyola University, DePaul University and Illinois Wesleyan University. She is still making her final choice of school, but she's sure about her career goal. "I would like to go into special education," she said. "I'd like to become a specialist in mental disabilities and open a center for the mentally disabled," she added.
"The scholarship committee members were really impressed with all of the students that applied," said Alumni Council Co-Chair Becky Brauer Koltz. "They are all extraordinarily talented and committed young people. Community High School and the Alumni Association can be very proud of the quality of the graduates. We wish the best of luck to David and Vanessa and all of this year's graduates and expect to see great things from them in the future," she added. The CHS Alumni Association is an extension of the CHS District 94 Education Foundation.
