Maria Concepción Benitez was recently chosen Student of the Month for March at Community High School District 94 in West Chicago. One teacher describes Maria as a young woman who gives much of herself to promote the causes of others while excelling in her own capacity. Maria is nothing less than exceptional and aspires to a cause greater than her own personal ambitions.

Maria began her school career in the Bilingual program, and through hard work and diligence has excelled in the mainstream program. She has been on the Honor Roll all four years, while attaining High Honor Roll status during her freshman, sophomore and senior years. She has served as a Student Assistant in Sheltered Geometry and Biology classes where she has devoted much time helping her peers. Maria's academic talents and hard work have earned her the honors of Outstanding Achievement in Math, ESL, Language Arts, and Science.

Maria became a member of the Art Club and the Bilingual Art Club during her junior year of which she is still a member. In addition to working on several banners in Art Club, she participated in the planning and recently helped with the completion of the Bilingual Mural. Maria also helped plan and participated in Frosty Fest during her junior year. Maria has demonstrated her athletic talent at Community High School as well as a member of the soccer team all four years.

Maria is the daughter of Pedro and Nazaria Benitez of West Chicago. She will be honored at the April 26 meeting of the CHS District 94 School Board, and her photo will be posted in the Students-of-the-Month display case at the high school.
