On March 30, 2005 at 5:13 PM, a west Chicago resident reported to the police she was a victim of a scam. The scam occurred at Walgreens located at 125 N Neltnor Blvd (Rte 59) on above date.
Victim entered Walgreens and was approached by a male Hispanic dressed in a brown uniform, similar to that of a U.P.S. employee. The subject was holding a radio shack catalog and asked victim if she was interested in purchasing a computer from Radio Shack at a discounted price. Victim indicated she was interested in the computer.
Suspect and victim walked towards Radio Shack located at 145 N Neltnor Blvd. Suspect asked victim for the money. Suspect advised her that he knew the store employee who would help with the discount price. Victim gave suspect $1,400.00 for a computer and a full warranty for the computer. Suspect entered the Radio Shack store, a few minutes later exited the store, walked into a U.P.S. truck parked in front of Radio Shack. The truck exited the parking lot and drove north bound on Rte 59.
Victim realized what had happened and walked inside Radio Shack and spoke with the employee who advised her that the male Hispanic entered the store but did not say or do anything but stood in the store for a few minutes then left. The store employee was not aware of what had happened to her.
The suspect was described by the victim as possible Puerto Rican, 6’00’’, 190lbs, wearing a brown uniform, green eyes, very short brown hair, subject spoke both good English and Spanish.
The Radio Shack employee described the suspect identical to the victim. The Radio Shack employee added the suspect was missing some teeth.
There were no video cameras available to assist in this case at this time.
