District #33 announces Kindergarten Registration for the 2005-2006 school year. Eligible students must be 5 years old by September 1, 2005. Parents of kindergarten-age students must register their child at their neighborhood school between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM on the following dates:

Parents should accompany their children to school on the appropriate date with the following documents: An official copy of the child's birth certificate, proof of residency (mortgage papers, lease, utility bill, etc.), health record of immunizations (latest date for completion is the first day of school on August 26), and a fee payment of $62.00. Many payment options are available.

On the day of registration, parents will receive assistance with registration forms. Parents and children will be given a tour of the kindergarten classroom and will meet teachers. There will be an opportunity to have questions answered. Students who speak a language other than English in the home will be given an assessment of their ability to communicate in English.

District #33 offers all kindergarten students the unique opportunity to learn a second language. This program integrates second language learners with their English-speaking peers in the same classroom with the goal of academic excellence and bilingual proficiency for both groups. Spanish speakers will be able to maintain their primary language while acquiring
English. English speakers will become fully proficient in Spanish. The Dual Language Program is housed at Gary School, and transportation is provided from the studentsí neighborhood school.
