Statement from Senator Peter Roskam on the Governor’s Budget Address

Springfield, IL – Below are a couple of statements from State Senator Peter Roskam (R-Wheaton) on the Governor’s Budget Address.

Senator Roskam on the Governor’s proposed welfare spending increases:

“It is becoming abundantly clear that welfare and entitlements are the main focus of this administration. While existing programs are consistently being under-funded, the Governor keeps proposing the expansion of welfare programs and the creation of new entitlements. Welfare expansion is three times the amount of new spending for education in this budget proposal. It is little wonder that we cannot seem to get out from under these budget deficits. We need to get these costs under control and unfortunately this Governor is moving us in the exact opposite direction.”

Senator Roskam on the Governor’s proposed tax and fee hikes

“If at first you do not succeed, try, try again. This appears to be the Governor’s philosophy when it comes to tax hikes on businesses as he is once again recycling his idea to tax so-called ‘canned’ software. Haven’t businesses in this state been punished enough?”
