CHS Pool Schedule and Program
Community High School is adding some exciting new aquatic programs for the public as well as repeating some of their most popular ones. They will offer an introductory Snorkeling for Kids class for children ages 5 through 12. The class will get kids comfortable with snorkeling while exploring a marine environment in the pool. There will also be a "ECO-Hunt" Treasure Hunt during the class. Students will learn the proper use of gear, poolside and in-water practice, ocean environment presentations and water games. The cost is $42 per child per class. Cost includes conservation book, certificate, mask and snorkel to use during class and a personal snorkel to keep. Class 1 will be held March 19 (10 a.m.- noon) and March 20 (2 - 4 p.m.). Class 2 is offered May 14 (10 a.m. - noon) and May 15 (2 - 4 p.m.). A parent or guardian must be present for the first class.
Scuba Seals for Kids (ages 8 to 12) is an introduction to snorkeling, scuba and aquatic environments. It will be held April 9 (12:30 - 3:30 p.m.), April 10th (3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) and April 12th (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.). The $190 cost per child includes book, video, dive log, recognition material and Seals ID card as well as instruction. A parent or guardian must be present at the beginning of the first class. Adult scuba lessons are available upon request.
Diving lessons taught by 1984 Olympic Medallist Ron Merriot will be offered on Saturdays. Thirty-minute classes are available between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Learn different dives from an Olympian with over 20 years experience.
The Aqua-Fitness classes on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. provide an excellent low impact workout with instructor Heidi Potts. These classes are for adults of at least high school age. Session 4 runs from February 21 through March 24. Fees are $60 per session for resident adults up to 59 years old, $70 per session for non-resident adults, $48 per session for resident seniors and $56 per session for non-resident seniors.
Open Swim at the CHS pool is available from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays in three laps lanes only. Open Swim from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays also includes diving boards, pool basketball and lap swimming. The pool is available for Early-Bird Lap Swim for those who are high school age and older from 5 to 6 a.m. Mondays and Fridays and 5 to 6:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
American Red Cross Lifeguarding classes are available in March and April. The $150 cost includes training, mask, gloves and book and leads to certification in Lifeguarding, CPR and AED.
The CHS Aquatic Program is also looking for master swimmers and thiathletes. They would like to start a Masters Swim Program which will meet either in the morning around 5:30-6:30 a.m. or at night around 6:30-8:30 p.m. Coaching will be provided. Pool parties may be booked year round on Saturdays and Sundays. Kayaking classes are coming soon.
Swim lessons are available at the CHS pool all year long. Half-hour classes are available on Saturdays between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Classes are also held Monday and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 6:30 p.m. They are available from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class sizes are kept small to provide maximum results.
